Drumbo Opportunity Centre

The mission of the Drumbo Opportunity Centre is to provide educational, informational and recreational opportunities to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Drumbo and surrounding area through the provision of programs, resources and activities in a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.

There is an emphasis on:

  • the strategic use of information technologies to assist local residents in key areas such as job search, effective access to government resources and programs and supporting the educational requirements of its citizens through a community centre incorporating open-access computer services.
  • the provision of general support services to community institutions such as the Drumbo and District Heritage Society and other general community activities.
  • workshops, programs, athletics, drama, art, music, handicrafts, hobbies and recreation for the benefit of the general public.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS

Does the computer intimidate you? We will explain the basics and help you understand the operating system. Learn how to move around your desktop. We will teach how to organize files, create new folders and create shortcuts.  Learn about opening and running programs.
Dates -   Feb 13, 27 & Mar 5 (7-9pm)

COMPUTER CLEAN-UP
Too many files on your desktop? Can't find all your files? How much space do your files use?  Do you want to delete files but aren't sure if it’s safe? This workshop explains how to clean up your system so it runs more efficiently.

INTERNET FEATURES AND E-MAIL
This course will teach you how to get around  the  internet, use websites and search for information. How to prevent pop ups and use virus protection will also be discussed. Learn how to set up a Google account, use attachments and share documents with contacts.

PHOTO EDITING
Learn how to edit pictures using Picasa free software. We also examine how to crop, add text, and select proper file type and some special effects.
Dates -Apr   30 and May 7 (7-9pm)

INSTRUCTOR Charlene Brown is a well trained computer instructor. She is employed at Russel A Farrow as a computer trainer.

For several years, DOC has been pleased to be a site for the weekly early years program in Oxford County.  The service provider is the County of Oxford.  Sessions are available every Tuesday morning.  Additional details about the program are available here or  by clicking on the County web site.
