The Drumbo Opportunity Centre (“the DOC”) is committed to respecting the privacy of all members as well as inidividuals who visit the DOC. This document sets out our privacy policy and describes why and how we collect, use and disclose personal information that you choose to provide to us on our membership form, on our web site, or when we provide a service to you. This policy doesn’t apply to anyone who isn’t under our control or management, such as the operators of other web sites that you might link to from our web site. Such operators may have their own privacy policies, which might differ from ours.
What is “personal information”?For the purposes of this policy, “personal information” means recorded information about any identifiable individual, including his or her name, address, telephone number, email address, age, gender, marital status, book preferences, internet/computer use preferences, Oxford County Library card number, and the DOC membership number.
How will we collect and store personal information?DOC will not collect any personal information about you without your consent and you are under no obligation to disclose any personal information to us at any time. But if you want to take advantage of all of the DOC’s services, such as the library and internet access, we will ask you to complete a membership form to become a member of the DOC. In the process you will be asked to give your name, address (e-mail address and/or home address), phone number, family member names (optional) and Oxford County Library card number (optional). If you choose to participate in programs and/or attend special events sponsored by the DOC, you may be asked to provide additional information about your age, personal preferences and other demographic information as necessary to effectively administer our programs and services. The information you choose to give us will enable us to provide you with assistance and services personalized to your preferences, and to better tailor our programs, services and event notifications to you. If you choose to become a member or otherwise provide personal information as requested by the DOC, we will keep track only of the information and preferences that you choose to provide to us. We will keep that information stored securely within our filing system and on our computer system which is off-line and not accessible on the Internet.
How do we use and disclose personal information?Any personal information you give us will only be used for the stated purpose for which it was collected such as sending you the DOC’s newslettersor announcements, membership renewal notices; and for contacting you regarding library materials (orders, arrivals, overdue materials); programs, services, and special events sponsored by the DOC and for responding to your comments or inquiries. None of your personal information will ever be shared, rented, sold or otherwise released to any third party without obtaining consent to do so, or as required by law.
What if I want to view or update my personal information, or want you to stop using or retaining my personal information?You may, at any time, view and update any of your personal information, or tell us to stop using or retaining it. You can do so by asking us in writing – dropping us a note in-person, by mail or e-mail. If you tell us to stop using your information, we will immediately honour your instructions and delete and securely dispose of your personal information. We may, however, retain a summary of your demographic information for research purposes. None of this summarized demographic information will be capable of identifying you.

What if you change this Privacy Policy?We will use personal information in accordance with the Privacy Policy in effect at the time the information was collected. If at some point we would like to start using your personal information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we would first ask for your approval. If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will send notice in writing to all members of the DOC (past and present) and post a notice at the DOC so that you can review it.
